Lumen Biofuels · Industrial Decarbonisation
Turning crop residue into industrial fuel.
Lumen Biofuels converts agricultural residue into bio-coal, a drop-in substitute for fossil coal in industrial boilers. The brand had to be trusted by procurement teams and farmers alike.

Context
Farm residue, factory fuel.
Lumen was founded by Peak Sustainability Ventures to build and scale a bio-coal platform in India, starting with the torrefaction of cotton stalk.
The first unit, 40,000 tonnes per annum in Gujarat, is being developed with Arvind Ltd., who is also the long-term offtaker for its output.
The model connects a decentralised, farm-level feedstock supply chain to committed industrial demand, which meant the brand had to speak credibly at both ends of that chain.
The challenge
Fuel is bought on trust.
Bio-coal is a substitution decision, not an aspiration. Plant managers care about calorific value, moisture and continuity of supply, not sustainability storytelling.
At the same time, the brand had to remain legible to farmers selling residue and to investors funding replication across India.

The idea
A quarter turns green.
The identity is built on transformation, held in a single square.
Four rounded quadrants form one block: three in the greys of ash, residue and carbon, one in living green. Read left to right it is a supply chain; read as a whole it is a briquette. The green quadrant is the conversion, the only part of the system that changes state.
Logo design
An icon built from four parts.
The mark is geometric and modular, drawn on a four-part grid so it can be stacked, tiled or split across packaging, plant signage and technical documents.
The single leaf-like quadrant gives it a natural read at small sizes without ever resorting to an illustrated leaf, and the block silhouette keeps the material, solid fuel, in the frame.

Colour system
Greys carry the industrial reality of ash, stalk and carbon; one bio green marks the point of conversion. Nothing in the palette pretends the product is anything other than fuel.

Outcome
A platform brand, built to replicate.
Lumen now has an identity that holds across a farm gate, a boiler house and a data room, and a modular mark that can extend as new plants and feedstocks come online.
